Start of Wimbledon 2021

The first day of Wimbledon already brought some surprises.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, world number three, did not make it into round two. The Greek was defeated by US- American Frances Tiafoe with 4:6, 4:6, 3:6. Frances Tiafoe is currently number 57. Tsitsipas had been cautious about his chances at the Grand Slam tournament on grass. He had last lost in the final to world number one Novak Djokovic and missed out on his first Grand Slam title in Paris.

Novak Djokovic, the world number one, has started his mission to defend his title at Wimbledon. Djokovic won over the British wildcard starter Jack Draper with 4:6, 6:1, 6:2, 6:2.

Scot Andy Murray presented the first highlight of the tournament under floodlights on Centre Court late Monday evening. Murray won against Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili with 6:4, 6:3, 5:7, 6:3. Thanks to a wildcard, Murray is competing at Wimbledon for the first time since 2017. 

The German Yannick Hanfmann missed the second round of Wimbledon, whereas Dominik Koepfer made a win. Hanfmann, the world number 99 was beaten by Jiri Vesely from the Czech Republic with 1-6, 5-7, 6-7 (5-7).

Koepfer won over Reilly Opelka from the USA with 6:4, 7:6 (7:3), 6:2.

Facundo Bagnis lost against Miomir Kecmanović with 4:6, 6:3, 3:6 and 6:7.

The South African Kevin Anderson defeated Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera with 7:6, 4:6, 4:6 and 6:7.

Marton Fucsovics from Hungary won against the Italian Jannik Sinner with 5:7, 6:3, 7:5 and 6:3.

Denis Kudla won over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina from Spain with 5:7, 4:6, 7:6 and 6:3. 

The Australian John Millman lost to Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut with 2:6, 6:3, 3:6 and 6:7.

Andreas Seppi won against

Joao Sousa with 4:6, 6:4, 7:5 and 6:2.

Greek Federico Delbonis lost to Russian Andrey Rublev with 6:4, 4:6, 1:6 and 2:6.

US-American Mackenzie McDonald

was defeated by Russian Karen Khachanov with 6:3, 3:6, 4:6 and 6:7.

Pedro Martinez Portero defeated Italian Stefano Travaglia with 6:3, 2:6, 6:4 and 6:4. 

Roberto Carballes Baena from Spain lost to the Canadian Vasek Pospisil with 3:6, 3:6 and 3:6.

Marco Cecchinato lost to the British Liam Broady with 3:6, 4:6 and 0:6.

The German Laura Siegemund has been eliminated directly in the first round at Wimbledon. Siegemund lost to the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova with 1:6, 3:6 in just 58 minutes.

Monica Niculescu was defeted by Aryna Sabalenka with 1:6 and 4:6.

The British Jodie Anna Burrage lost to the US-American Lauren Davis with 2:6 and 1:6.

Garbine Muguruza won over Fiona Ferro at 6:0 and 6:1.

Danielle Collins defeated Polona Hercog with 4:6, 6:3 and 6:2.

Veronika Kudermetova lost to the Swiss Victorija Golubic with 6:3, 1:6 and 9:11.

Dutch Lesley Kerkhove defeated Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova with 3:6 and 3:6.

Katie Boulter won over Danielle Lao with 6:7, 6:3 and 6:4,

Maria Osorio Serrano won over Anna Kalinskaya at 1:6, 6:0 and 6:4.

Katie Swan from the UK lost against the US-American Madison Keys with 3:6 and 4:6.

Sloane Stephens beat Petra Kvitova with 6:3 and 6:4.

Chinese Xinyu Wang lost to the US-American Sofia Kenin with 4:6 and 2:6.

Iga Świątek defeated Su-Wei Hsieh

with 6:4 and 6:4.

Irina Begu from Romania defeated US-American Katie Volynets at 6:4 and 7:5.

Kristie Ahn won over British Heather Watson with 2:6, 7:6 and 8:6.

Kristina Mladenovic lost to Elena Rybakina at 4:6 and 0:6.
