Minister of Sport Vincenzo Spadafora does not want to be tied down to a timetable for a possible re-start of the Italian soccer league Serie A. “We all hope that the championship can be re-started as planned. But it is impossible to set a specific date today” Spadafora said during question time in the Italian parliament.
It is necessary to look at the infection curve over the next two weeks because Italy only allowed the first cautious loosening in the corona pandemic two days ago, the minister said: “Only then will the Italian government be able to make a decision“.
The Italian championship has been suspended since March 9th. The professionals were allowed to resume training in smaller groups this week. The teams can start team training on May 18th at the earliest. The rules for this, however, still have to be determined.
