Naomi Osaka, the two-time Grand Slam winner, has risen to become the best-paid sportswoman in the world. According to “Forbes magazine”, the Japanese earned 37.4 million dollars (34.3 million euros) in the past twelve months, 1.4 million dollars more than her tennis rival Serena Williams. US-American Williams (38) had topped the list in the previous four years. Osaka ranks 29th, Williams 33rd.
Both now surpassed the previous annual record set by former Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova in 2015 with 29.7 million dollars (27.3 million euros). The last time that two women made it into the top 100 of the world’s highest-paid athletes was 2016.
