“God willing, we’ll start on June 11“, league boss Javier Tebas had declared in the “Marca” – now it’s official: The Spanish government’s Supreme Sports Council agreed on this date with the federation and the league last Friday.
The first game after the Corona break will be the local derby between FC Sevilla and Betis. Ideally, all eleven remaining match days should be completed by July 26. The re-start was scheduled one day later, as Tebas had announced on May 10.
Tebas explained that they were prepared and hoped to end the season promptly because the date for the start of the 2020/21 season has already been fixed. “We will start the next season on September 12”, said the 57-year-old.
Tebas is regarded as a radical advocate of ending the season. “The idea” is even “to play for 35 days in a row if necessary to finish the season”, a statement that was criticized by many. For the re-start in Spain Tebas took the German Bundesliga as a role model.
