The French league association LFP announced on Saturday that the next Ligue 1 season would start on 23 August. The calendar is still provisional, however. Ligue 2 from 22 August and Ligue 1 from 23 August – this is the central message of Saturday’s LFP announcement. The 2019/20 season had been abandoned in both leagues at the end of April due to the corona crisis. However, the calendar for the coming season is so far only provisional. The LFP still has to wait for the decisions of UEFA on how to proceed with the European competitions.
A decision on this could be made at a meeting on 17 June. According to current plans of the continental association, the Champions League and Europa League are expected to be played to the end in August. Since two
French teams, Paris St. Germain and Olympique Lyon, are also involved in the premier league, there is a risk of scheduling conflicts under the current model. When the national finals in the Coupe de France and the League Cup will be made up for is still open.
For this, the association announced that they are still waiting for more precise instructions from the authorities for the organisation of ghost games.
