There is some positive news for Novak Djokovic again. Following the scandal at the US Open, the world number one won the first game in Rome, the ATP sand court tournament. In New York, Djokovic was disqualified in round sixteen after hurting a lineswoman with a tennis ball when playing it from the court. Novak defeated Salvatore Caruso from Italy with 6-3, 6-2.
Rafael Nadal, who took a break of 6 months and who did not attend the US Open 2020, was also successful in Rome. Pablo Carreno Busta, also from Spain, had no chance against Rafa and lost with 6-1, 6-1. Many are excited to see Rafa back in Paris at the French Open. So far he won the French clay-court tournament twelve times. A win this year would bring the number of his grand slam wins to 20, and he would catch up with the Swiss Roger Federer who already earned those 20 titles. We shall see.
