The commanding FC Bayern shone again on the way to the 30th championship title. After the 1:0 in Dortmund, the Munich team celebrated a real goal festival against Fortuna Düsseldorf.
With 5:0 (3:0), the Bavarians outclassed Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday evening, giving their fans an optimal nine-point week in the Bundesliga.
The FCB combined to their heart’s content and took the 22nd victory in the 25th compulsory game under Hansi Flick. After the own goal of Düsseldorf’s Mathias Jörgensen (15th minute), Benjamin Pavard (29th), the twice successful Robert Lewandowski (43./50.) and Alphonso Davies (52nd) scored for the Bavarians.
Four days after their presumed masterpiece, the Munich team did not take a break from the game with a 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund. Quite the contrary! Committed and courageous, the Munich team impressed with power and speed – Fortuna had zero chance.
The man of the first half-hour was Pavard, who played a decisive role in two goals from Bavaria. Before the 24-year-old scored his fourth goal of the season after a Kimmich corner kick, he was also celebrated for taking the lead. However, Pavard’s direct pass ultimately steered Jörgensen into Fortuna’s own goal.
Like right-back Pavard, Bayern’s left-back Davies also scored. The Canadian, who was praised by sports director Hasan Salihamidzic as “excellent” and “very confident” before the game, immediately left a handful of opponents standing and scored in the second home game in a row.
There was little offensive football to be seen from Fortuna in the last game of manager Lutz Pfannenstiel’s term of office. With this bitter setback, it will be challenging for the Fortunas in the fight for class retention.
