The FC Liverpool is closing in on its first Premier League title triumph in 30 years and could come even closer with a victory at Merseyside rivals Everton this Sunday. The Reds currently hold a comfortable 22-point lead over Manchester City who defeated Arsenal 3-0 on Wednesday.
A look at FC Everton
FC Everton was thumped 4-0 at boss Carlo Ancelotti’s former club FC Chelsea prior to the halt, continuing their winless run to three games.
But Richarlison has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season and has formed a robust partnership with Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Brazilian forward was on target in Everton’s 5-2 thrashing by Liverpool at Anfield in December 2019 but is determined to finish the season on a positive note. On the club’s website, he stated: “A lot can happen in nine matches, the teams are all very close in the table and instead of looking back searching for mistakes, I rather prefer to think about the games that are ahead of us. We want to have as many positive results as possible to, who knows, enter the fight for a place in a continental tournament. We have to keep that flame burning”.
A look at FC Liverpool
Liverpool is back in action for the first time since their dramatic Champions League exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid at Anfield Stadium. It was the Reds’ fourth defeat in six games in all competitions, which included seeing their unbeaten league run ended as well being dumped out of the FA Cup.
Jürgen Klopp’s side could win the title with two more victories even if ManCity continues to win. Klopp told BBC Sport: “It’s nice to think about it, but we are not the champions yet, and we know that. We do know that we are close, but close is not being there yet. There are 27 points left for us, and we will try everything to take them all. We are still not champions”.
Liverpool has only allowed nine goals away from home this season, seven of them in the second half, while 20 of the 34 goals seen at this venue have also arrived after the break.
With FC Everton being the current number 12 in the league and FC Liverpool heading the board with a comfortable lead, our tip is a clear 3-0 victory for the Reds.
