BVB won 6-1 (0-0) against SC Paderborn, the bottom of the table, just five days after the bitter 1-0 defeat. The “Borussians” were thus able to keep their rivals at a distance in the four-legged battle for a place in the Champions League.
In the first half time the engaged SC Paderborn 07 could still keep up, but then the BVB shifted gears and destroyed the SCP. Thorgan Hazard (54th), returnee Jadon Sancho with his season goals 15, 16 and 17 (57th/74/90.+1), Achraf Hakimi (85th) and Marcel Schmelzer (89th) scored for the fourth away win in a row. The SCP, coached by Steffen Baumgart, was able to shorten by Uwe Hünemeier (72nd) with a penalty kick, but still had no chance in the second half.
Since ten games the SCP is without a win and the air for the class preservation becomes, therefore, slowly but surely extremely thin. On the other hand, the BVB has set themself up nicely for the entry into the Champions League with this clear victory.
