In the duel for third place in Group A, Switzerland against Turkey, the Swiss won with 3:1. Haris Seferovic’s goal in the 6th minute and Xherdan Shaqiri’s two strikes in the 26th and 68th minute gave Switzerland their first victory in the European Championship. However, the Swiss now have to hope for some shooting help to make it into the top 16 teams as one of the four best third-placed teams in the group.
The Record-breaking Italy team has quickly stormed through Group A with a 1-0 win over Wales. The Squadra Azzurra celebrated their eleventh successive win, and with 30 consecutive games without defeat, the Italian team also equalled their record from the 1930s under coaching legend Vittorio Pozzo. The Italians will face Austria or Ukraine in the round of 16 at Wembley Stadium.
Polen versus Spain 1:1
The FC Bayern Munich top scorer, Robert Lewandowski, has saved Poland from an early exit from the European Championship. Lewandowski scored his first goal of the tournament in the 54th minute to secure a 1-1 draw with Spain in Seville. With his goal, the Polish team managed to preserve the country’s chance of reaching the round of 16. The Poles will meet Sweden in their final preliminary round match on Wednesday.
France against Hungary
World champions France missed out on an early place in the last 16 of the European Championship. In the second match, the Équipe Tricolore could not get beyond a 1:1 against outsider Hungary. France will face Portugal on Wednesday. With four points, the world champions still have every chance of advancing before the final match.
In the final group match, Hungary will face Germany in Munich on Wednesday.
